Good, trimmed and with creases to right - player-manager Alec Stock, who earlier that day was one of the Glovers' heroes when the Southern leaguers beat the "Bank of England" 1st division side, Sunderland by 2-1 in the 4th round. Stock scored one of those goals. Sadly the run ended in the 5th round at Maine Road, against United whose ground was out of action post-war.
Mr Stock had a fantastic career as manager later on, at Leyton Orient, AS Roma, QPR, Luton, Fulham & Bournemouth. He had a "win" rate of 52% while managing Yeovil (153 games, Feb 46-Sept 49). In all he was a manager for 1584 matches, making him the 4th most experienced boss of all time (as I write). It's also thought that Ron Manager, the Paul Whitehouse character in the Fast Show, was based on Alec.
