VGC - sl corner crses - match for the Willie Hall Benefit fund - Willie played pre-war including 10 England appearances, with one amazing game v N Ireland 1938 in which he scored 5 goals within 30 minutes either side of half time - a record. But he broke his leg towards the end of wartime and later had that leg amputated, and then ill-health caused him to lose the other leg. Despite that he continued with coaching roles until it all got too much for him and he retired from the game to run a pub in his home town of Newark, Notts. To this day the Willie Hall Memorial Trophy is played for there in his honour. He passed away shortly after watching Spurs win the FA Cup in 1967, aged 55.
This match at White Hart Lane v an FA XI included Tommy Lawton, shaking Willie's hand.
